CASE FILE MECHANISM
How The Understudied works
Record a task as it really happens. Turn it into reviewed operating knowledge. Then make that knowledge useful at the moment someone needs it.
REF · 001
Record the real process
A knowledgeable teammate starts a focused recording, completes one real task in the tools they already use, and can narrate the decisions that are not obvious on screen. The starting point is observable work, not a procedure reconstructed from memory.
The recorder is explicit. It starts and stops when the user chooses. The goal is a clean, intentional source record for one process, not ambient surveillance.

Protect sensitive details before they travel
The product is being designed around local redaction before information leaves the device. Credentials, customer details, and other sensitive material should not become part of a knowledge entry simply because they appeared during a task.
Security controls, review, and approval are part of the knowledge workflow, not an afterthought added after a guide is published.
REF · 003
Turn evidence into a reviewed procedure
The captured task is distilled into structured steps with source context and provenance. A person reviews the result, corrects it when needed, and decides whether it is ready to become shared operating knowledge.
Multiple examples of the same process can eventually inform one canonical procedure while preserving meaningful variants and discrepancies. The knowledge base should reflect how work changes rather than freeze the first recording forever.

Answer and guide from the same source
Once knowledge is approved, people can browse it, ask a direct question, or follow a guided walkthrough while they work. Answers should remain connected to their source so a user can understand where the guidance came from.
When the knowledge base cannot answer with confidence, the right outcome is escalation, not a plausible invention. The Understudied is being built around useful limits as well as useful answers.
