The team of one problem
Small and mid-size organizations often have one person who understands the systems, exceptions, and handoffs behind a critical workflow. They may not have an IT department, a learning team, or a dedicated documentation owner.
That expert becomes the default destination for every question. The pattern works until the organization grows, someone takes leave, a new hire starts, or the expert simply needs time to do their own job.

Where living knowledge can help
Recurring internal workflows are a practical starting point: reporting, scheduling, customer setup, billing operations, system administration, approvals, and other repeatable work with meaningful exceptions.
The best candidates are important enough to preserve, repeated often enough to learn from, and currently dependent on demonstration or memory.

What the product is not
The Understudied is not a blank wiki, a generic chatbot, employee surveillance, or a replacement for the people who hold the expertise. It is also not being presented as finished software today.
The intended workflow is explicit capture, local redaction, human review, controlled publishing, and clear escalation when approved knowledge cannot support an answer.
